Nutritional smoothies have long been a favorite recommendation of mine for several reasons: they’re quick and simple to make, easy to digest, can be made in a variety of tasty flavors, and if made with superior ingredients, pack a huge amount of nutrition into a single serving or meal.
There is no other single food or menu item that can be made into such a customized, nutrient-dense blend as the nutritional smoothie. Not to be confused with fast-food, store bought, or even fresh-squeezed juice bar type ‘smoothies’, my smoothie guidelines are based on over 20 years of clinical experience in the health field with thousands of patients including pediatric, adolescent, athletic, geriatric and immune-challenged cases. The simple fact is that smoothies have something for everyone, and can be tailored to fit even the most discriminating palates and tastes.
WHAT’S THE BIG DEAL?

There is no other single food or menu item that can be made into such a customized, nutrient-dense blend as the nutritional smoothie!
The most important aspect of the nutritional smoothie is the starting ingredients. Never sacrifice quality when it comes to your health.
For these reasons, the following pages have my ingredient guidelines with specific companies and brands to choose from for your smoothie. If you’re not used to making smoothies, relax. All you need is a blender and two to five minutes of your time. In time they can become a favorite meal of the day, and by far the healthiest.
Smoothie Guidelines & Ingredients:
1) PROTEIN POWDER. Use 1-2 scoops per serving/smoothie.
The best is NanoPro® from Bio Pharma.
It can be purchased at our office or through my website at http://www.superfoodsolution.com/a/1312. Made from 100% organic, grass-fed, low-temperature processed whey protein (highest biological value of any protein) to maintain immunoglobins and glycopeptides. Don’t be fooled by other whey products made by acid hydrolysis or high heat, which destroy the fragile proteins. A non-dairy alternative: rice/pea/chlorella-based ‘BioCleansePlus’ (Biogensis®) Virtual Pharmacy code: BCPlus. Add protein to blender last, on low speed.
2) GREEN SUPERFOOD. 1 scoop per smoothie.
There are numerous ‘green’ powders available, but ‘NanoGreens®’ is superior for many reasons. See our brochure for detailed information, or visit my website under ‘products’, then under ‘superfoods’, or same source as NanoPro, above.
3) FRUIT. Use 1 cup.
Berries rule! Blueberries are great, but any kind you like, fresh or frozen will work. They’re low in sugar and loaded with antioxidants. If preferred, ½ banana is a good choice too. Note: frozen fruit helps disguise any ingredient with an unpleasant taste. If you prefer less chill, take frozen berries out the night before to thaw, then use in AM. Optional: NanoReds® powder at 1 scoop (same source as NanoGreens®).
4) LIQUID. Use 1-2 cups.
Organic rice, almond, or coconut milks, or any combination. Water is OK too.
5) ESSENTIAL FATS. Use any of the following at 1-2 teaspoons.
BioGenesis® Omega 3-6-9. Virtual Pharmacy code: om369.
Pure Encapsulations® EPA/DHA Liquid. Virtual Pharmacy code: EPA23.
Optional: for added fiber, add Barlean’s® fresh ground organic flaxseeds, 1-2 tablespoon (health food store or our virtual pharmacy), or 2 teaspoons of organic chia seeds (health food store or www.vivapura.net).
6) FLAVOR HELPERS. Choose one or more.
Purely optional, but can make a difference when adding a lot of ingredients. Stevia: amount depending on your preference, or Xylitol: use 1/2 – 1 teaspoon, or blueberry, cherry, acai or pomegranate extract – ( health food stores): use 1-3 teaspoons. May need to experiment a bit to find one you like best.
7) CALORIE & WEIGHT GAIN SUPPORT. Choose one or more.
L-Glutamine powder: 3,000-15,000mg/smoothie (Pure Encapsulations® is best. See http://www.purecapspro.com/healthquest). Helps keep/build lean mass, spare muscle wasting. Good for sugar cravings.
Organic almond or halvah butter: 1-2 tablespoons.
Organic goat or coconut yogurt: 2-4 tablespoons.
Omega 3 6 9 liquid: (see #5 above) Extra 1 Tablespoon.
IMMUNE SUPPORT. Choose one or more.
Liquid Vitamin D3 (Pure Encapsulations) 2-10 drops, depending on lab.
CoCurcumin (our office or Virtual Pharmacy code: AY146) 1 teaspoon. Some cases may require 1 tsp, 2x/day.
NanoReds (http://www.mybiopharmacy.com/a/1312/): 1 scoop. Loaded with flavonoids. Tastes great!
Immucare I or II (call office for order info; or astragalus powder): 1 teaspoon.
9) OTHER OPTIONS:
Organic cinnamon, curcumin or turmeric, ginger or nutmeg: 1- 2 teaspoons of any or all for warmth and digestion. These also help to reduce the cold or yin nature (Chinese medicine) and are especially good for the colder months of the year.
